Re: 65 Westy

I saw that westy at the Columbus show as well. She is clean as a whistle and a great price. Heck, you would pay that just in metal work for a rusty one.

Nice looking oval too! was it built the day before your actual birthday and same year? that would be cool! This `51 Crotch Cooler Split I restored ...

Re: CKWA/KWHA Part II

I want to use a strap on the right cargo door becasue I have those elephant mirrors on the front cab doors that the cargo door hits when opened fully. Maybe they'll stretch back with a litle use.

Yes, this bus came with either 3 or 4 of everything or nothing. Feast or famine.

Bob is right, that bus had been passed around and neglected for sooo many years, I don't think it could have found a better owner then you.
You have put a lot of work and passion into that bus that it ...

Re: CKWA/KWHA Part II

BTW, isn't it crazy that it has two tranny drain plugs???

Actually all the type 1 style transmissions have 2 drain plugs.
If you were to see a transmission case disassembled you would see the reason why. There is two chambers in a the vw transmission. The front for the gear stack ...

Re: CKWA/KWHA Part II

Split case transmissions used the 19mm bolt or hex head plugs on the trannys and redux boxes.

When VW went to the tunnel trans in `60 they started using the 17mm allen head bolt plugs like toolbox ted speaks of. Both styles have pipe threads and the drain plugs in the tranny will have magnets in ...
