Thanks Tram. Let me look through the numbers of what I have, so you're not wasting your time. I'll post up what I have and what doesn't work.Tram wrote:Sean, I'm fairly sure I have a few good vac cans. I'll do some digging and if I do I can send you one.
40 HP Refresh

Re: 40 HP Refresh
Here are the vacuum ones I was able to locate today.

The top row are all "shortys", but they have the bigger vacuum cans. The one on the far left with the cap would seem to be my best bet since the number, ZV/JU4R3, matches a 65 Beetle and 65 bus, but I'm guessing it came off a '65 bus because it has a larger vacuum can than what I'm assuming was on a beetle 40 horse. The bigger vacuum can may have been for the 1500. The one in the second row center is the stock one with the smaller can, but it has no vacuum. The old VJU BR4 next to it on the left has no vacuum either, but that one would probably work as well. The last one on the right second row is no help since it's from a pancake and has both the advance and retard port on the can.
Anyway, I'll keep running the 019 till I can find a correct 0231 147 002 111 905 205L or 111 905 205M or 0231 137 005 111 905 205N
or 113 905 205J with a small vacuum can.

Sean, PM me your mailing address.
Re: 40 HP Refresh
Thanks in advance Tram for whatever you're sending me!
Well, I went down to Dale's for a little help on the generator light. He polarized it in about 15 seconds and shazam! the red light was out and the generator was charging the battery!
Can't figure out what Josh and I were doing wrong, but it was something simple. Red light is out!

No need for these this time. I can stick them back in the "horder" area.

Sean, look for a Prio Mail package to hit the Mistake on the Lake Saturday or Monday, or thereabouts. No bill enclosed. You can pay me in beer.
Between you and Howie, maybe I can stay half in the bag for my whole Ohio tour. Since I'm visiting family, this could be good. There's a reason I'm all the way over on the Least Coast...
BTW, did getting the charging system sorted help things?

When are you coming up? We'll be ready. No such thing as "HALF in the bag". It's the whole sack or nothing.Tram wrote:Between you and Howie, maybe I can stay half in the bag for my whole Ohio tour.

Thanks Tram! I'll keep my eyes peeled. It's a bone stock motor, so I may as well try the original distributor. And yes, she's charging nicely now. Seems it just needed a proper re-polarization!Tram wrote:Sean, look for a Prio Mail package to hit the Mistake on the Lake Saturday or Monday, or thereabouts. No bill enclosed. Re: 40 HP Refresh
Got the vacuum can today!
Thanks Tram, I owe you. I'm going to try and work on it tomorrow.
Yes, the drivability has improved 110%, but I still want to try the vacuum can to see the real difference. I think it will run even better than it does with the 019. It was running poorly before the "refresh", so It's kind of hard to say if it's running perfect now. I'm going to give it a try!
