Pop Outs or Louver Style Windows
I'm looking for some advice on keeping my louver-style windows which are in very good condition with nice screens, or installing the popular pop-out style. What are your thoughts?
Re: Pop Outs or Louver Style Windows
I liked the louver's I had on my previous Westy, but I have to admit they were very noisy when rolling even when I tried to tighten everything up.
The best thing about them was rainy days let you keep the air flowing at the campsite and the elimination of bugs was a plus as well.
The pop out's give you a lot of air with the way you had them mounted in the pictures. They're great as well, but of course rain and bugs get in as well.
To me the cool
factor is with the pop outs, especially when you've got six of them!
Since you're asking, I'd go with the pop outs.

In fact, add that to your poll question.

GOTTA be the popouts. I love that look.

Re: Pop Outs or Louver Style Windows
The louver style is one I have not seen available at many of the online replacement parts stores. I think they are more of a rarity. Pop outs can be found lots of places though, look great, and are definitely the more popular way to restore. My windows, screens, glass, frames, and interior trim are all in excellent shape. I think I do need a window crank or two which I can't find (in case any one has a spare). I do have a camper interior in this kombi too. I think I will keep the louvers for the following reasons:
1.) They are in excellent shape and I don't see any point in spending money on this item. I believe in recycling, or rather keeping what I can. This will put me a few hundred dollars closer to getting a SC or DC next!
2.) They might be the more rare way of doing it and original.
3.) If camping with my wife and 3-year old takes place - the screens will be extremely necessary for windflow w/o bugs.
Thanks all. The notes helped. I especially liked the comments that campers should have the louvers and non-campers pop outs. Makes sense to me.

Vintage Trailer Supply might have what you need. I have gotten HEHR window parts from them.
