SST 2011
SST 2011
I'll stick this here since it certainly is an incredible annual "story". SST Shasta Snow Trip. The 11th version of this epic event is underway this weekend. You can read about the previous ten versions and follow the current one here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... start=4960
Re: SST 2011
I watched the videos of this years trip and some of the prior years trips on YouTube. Those dudes are Hard Core. Those single lane mountain roads with the dropoff on the side reminded me of a camping trip I made to W. Va last summer. I can't imagine driving that in the winter.

Re: SST 2011
I lived in Shasta in the mid 70's when I moved up there I was driving my first Bus a1960 DD walk thrugh pannel. in the winter I couldnt get away from the curb in the snow on the steep cambered roads, so I sold the bus and bought a 53 willes pick up 4 wheel drive with a 283 chev. this worked well in the moutains. I dont think the back roads are that bad if you move slow. I have a video of the first trip. I will say I would not take my good Bus on that trip, just a good running beater.
Re: SST 2011
This is a short, but neat video of them getting underway.

Here's another one with a little more to it. The guy being interviewed is "Kombiustra" I think his name is Brian. He's the guy that started it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHMIQAuecFY
