I am hoping to get the rear hat channel, the rear outriggers, and four jack points installed Monday and Tuesday after work.

Wow, first of all I want to say keep up the good work. I am in the middle of a full resto also on a '66 Deluxe which I started on Jan 1 and have about 210 hours in right now. I don't have the guts or stamina to do it after work, for me it's either work my job or work on the bus, never both in the same day.

First off, hours. I put in 4 hours after work, and my brother 3. for a total of 7 man hours. That puts the total at 103 hours

Today was a little bit more productive than yesterday, I started off by screwing around







I screwed the top hat sections together from where I had to split them to fit. Then I pulled to screws and plug welded the holes to join the 2 separate sections together






While I was under the van, I discovered that the cross member that runs under the front bulk head was not welded. I was simply just shoved up there, and the heater tube was holding it in place. So that got welded up also

4 outriggers installed





Since I had to cut rear most hat channel, and since I had 2 extra outriggers, I decided to cut outriggers down some so the would fit the rear most hat channel.
I know its not factory, and I know I "probably" would be fine now that the channel is welded back together, but I wanted that extra bit of assurance



My plan for tomorrow is to get the 4 jack points installed, and if that goes easy and quick, I will start on the long side c pillar bottoms.

Thanks for the replies and kind words.

Total man hours today was 5. new total 108 (?)

Started out today by installing the 4 jack points









Then I patched the hole in the heater tube








Still need to replace this stupid PVC pipe with metal tubing



And have to figure out how to run my heater log. I assume that I will need some sort of "Y" or "T" to branch off of. If anyone knows the proper way, or has a good photo of how it is "plumbed" I would appreciate it.



Finally I finished the night off by tacking in the bottom "c" pillars on driver side

I still need to get a bottom inner for the rear cargo door, and bottom door skin, and finish up the areas around the rear wheel wells, then I will be ready for a floor.

Working on the front end of the bug tomorrow, I am giving myself 2 days since I have never replaced bushings on a beetle before, so there wont be any more updates till Friday at the earliest.

You're missing a piece that curves and goes through the floor to connect with the log, which is welded to the floor under the rear seat. The patch you put on the heater pipe is actually exposed inside the cabin as it sticks through the floor like a "bump".

My heater log setup is supposed to be just like yours, they come several ways depending on whether you have rear seats and etc. I'm missing my heater log and looking for one. I eliminated my rear heater "Y" as it's not used (like yours is also not used) and put a simple 2 1/2" bent pipe in place, along with a 2 3/4" long pipe from Napa.

Thanks for the reply, I have been keeping up with your build, but do not know how I missed that photo of the log on page 3, it is exactly what I was looking for. As far as the patched heat tube, and coming through the hole, it was my understanding that the floor panel fit "around" the tube and not over it. I was nicked, rotted, and filled with foam. I did the repair now, so when the floor goes in I would not have to monkey around with it.

I plan on replacing the PVC with a straight exhaust pipe, just have not got to it yet, wanted to do it and log at same time. I have the original (?) log that came with van. Its just a tube with ends and legs welded on it, and vent strips cut in, I can post some photos and measurements if you are interested in making one (if you cannot find).

The heat log is run off the left side heat exchanger. the L & R heat exchangers do not connect together anywhere on a Standard or Deluxe Bus, the Y is capped on the left side. Panels, Kombis, SC and DC send all the heat up front.

I think I understand what you are saying. The "Y" in the rear crossmember is not used on my standard. It should be capped off at left side inlet. The heater log connect to the left side outlet (coming from engine bay). The right side heat channel (the one I patched) flows through to the cabin outlet at the front of the van. Left is seperate from right, and they never connect (only on sc/dc do they utilize "Y" @ crossmember).

Is my understanding correct?
