Bill - thanks for the heads up. Is it possible that I could use my existing main bearings, or would I be setting myself up for disaster?

I was unaware of the worldwide shortage of Type IV main bearings. Probably caused by the Bush administration.

Just bite the bullet and buy new bearings. Reusing the old ones could end up costing way more later.

How do the heads look? That is another place that will suck up your money.

The heads overall look okay, but they are definitely in for a valve job before being reassembled. I guess I already knew the "right" answer to the main bearings question. Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts.

I'll dig out the DVD and have it for you at the meeting or earlier if we meet up. I'd check with Bill on the heads to see what he recommends, but if you're looking for someone good, Aaron's (Widefive) guy is RIS out of Youngstown. He is Richard Sedoris. The valve seats are a weak point on the stock type IV heads. There was also a TSB on eleminating the stock head gasket and lapping the cylinders to the head for better sealing. You will need to reset the deck height when the gasket is eliminated for proper compression ratio.

Bill and /or Chuck can add more to this I am sure.

Bill - I have the How To book and the Bentley manual. Sometimes it feels like information overload, but as I learn more everything starts making more sense.
