Inquiring minds would like to know your painting process. What kinds of sandpaper (brands/grit), brands of paint, kind of paint (single stage/bc/cc), kind of equipment used (air compressor/paint sprayer)?

These are all things I like to hear about, also it gives people an idea of how things are done and that it can be done in your own garage! Good Job John, and who cares if it's now perfect because you did it yourself and saved thousands!

hears a little for josh, sandpaper started w/25 year old 220 grit some places i started w/100 grit, butt 220 was the majority of the sanding,i sujest throwing the old paper away and buying 3m at ur local parts store, wet and dry.paint is a sigle stage spary it on and drive it away.115.00 a gallon, urthan i beleive.as far materials price it comes in around 450.00 give or take a few dollars and i still have about a half gallon left.so i can paint trailer to match.this dollar amout include sand paper paint thinner prepsal (which you don t need) hardner a little pricey mixing cups stir sticks masking tape and an 11.00 roll of craft paper, news paper is just a pain to work with.i borrowed a sprayer from a freind they can be purchased for as little as forty dollars and the price just goes up.i would recomend this project to some with a detached garage,it does get messy.and the paint smell lingers for some time,oh yes buy a resperater.i will use this for other project now that i see and feel what thay do for your well being.well worth it.once agin 3m product.35.00 do not buy the p.o.s. for 20.00! i have about forty or less hours in this project and i am almost finshed puttn her back together.i do have several blems in the paint wind bugs were an issue. lite is very important one resons for my runs.i could not really see the paint first layers appear to be invisible.butt this is still a live and learn project very glad i started and can t wait to finsh.as josh said, thosands saved yes.i did not get any body work prices but i think n on the low end for what i did at least 2300.00,and probaly would not have been happy.i did do 2 repairs pretty indepth.one under my water and eletric hookups and the other on the nose at the bottom where the radator grill is on the water cooled.i will post some more pics (not of the blems) of finshed project once i take the pics.thats all i got for now, john

Great job! :D Your efforts show that it's not impossible for bus owners to dive in on their own projects and achieve some very good results. Good point about using quality supplies. I know Josh is a big 3-M guy with his Parma Paint Booth supplies. Your bus came out very nice. Thanks for taking the time to chronicle the progress and post all the pictures.

By the way, how's the clutch?
