Took the Westy over today to the doctor for a nose job. Hope to have it done in time for the cruise on May 5th.

Picked up the Westy today. He did a great job on it. Can't tell it was ever hit. Got a scare on the 10 mile drive coming home though. The engine quit and I coasted over to the shoulder. Looked around and noticed that the metal inlet tube for the fuel line had popped out of the carb with the fuel line still clamped to it. Should I put some Locktite on it?

[quote="WideFive"]You are lucky you didn't catch that Bus on fire.

That's what I was thinking, made me kinda shaky when I got home.

Many different ways to fix the issue, some more rigged up than others.

I peen the inside, loc-tite and hammer it in. Feel free to use bailing wire and throw some duct tape on there too if you feel the need ;)

I agree with Aaron the one above looks a little rigged. Peening works as well as threading it and installing a barbed fitting.

If i were to wire it I would use .032 safety wire around the clamp to a wire tab mounted on one of the bowl screws.

This is for anti rotation of the filter but I would tie the clamp this way.

If it were mine I might change the carb lid. A good way to tighten up the barb going into the carb lid is to roll it on the workbench with the edge of a mill file which knurls the area going into the cast. This gives the barb some "teeth" which retains it much better and swells it up a few thou. This and some epoxy and you're good to go.

I have some problems with the pics of the fuel filter before the carb, even with the safety wire the inlet barb could loosen up causing a leak. Those barbs just aren't designed to carry the weight and vibration of a full fuel filter. I also don't like screw clamps on small fuel lines, they aren't made for that small of a hose and don't fit properly. I use spring steel clamps that fit properly on the line (but they won't allow safety wire on them). Why people insist on locating a fuel filter here is beyond me. It makes much more sense to locate it before the pump and above the tranny where it protects the FP check valves as well. I guess lazy people put it by the carb. In that pic I also think I make out a bit of dry rot in the fuel line evidenced by a crack in the rubber.

Another pet peeve of mine is people who use ¼” rubber fuel hose and screw clamps on an ACVW, but don’t get me started on that…….

Also, why safety wire an oil filter- do they have trouble with them coming loose? I've never seen that be a problem before.

Here’s some pics of my engine with a Zenith. I only use clamps on the pressure line as you don’t need them on the suction line.
