Tried to drive DC today and it's all over the road. I called alignment guy and he said to drive it because everything is so new and tight that it needs to loosen up. Any suggestions?

Did you ask him why new cars are not all over the road with all their new parts?

Rick that DC looks great. If you have questions regarding alignments on air-cooled VW's you might want to check with Matt from Lakewood, AKA "New Guy Matt".

You met him at Woodstock Jim's in August when you had the DC there. Matt works for one of those big outfits like Firestone or Goodyear and despite his young age, he's done a few air-cooled VW alignments. Matt's a great guy and even if he can't help you, he might give you some pointers or what to look for.

Well drove the DC for it's offical first 5 miles!!! This would be my first 5 miles in a VW type II.
But this thing is scary can't drive over 35 without it fishtailing all over.
I think I"m going to put new balljoints in it, how hard of a job is it, any special tools involved, should I leave it to a pro? As far as balljoints should I go with German{$34 wolfsburg} or USA{NAPA $51 3-4 days}?

Get the rebuilt arms with pre installed balljoints from
Scott at German Supply. The press work is the hard part and you might need the +1 size joint if the hole has been oversized in the past.
Did the shopp that did the alignment add weight to compensate for a driver? It is called out to do this in the service manual.
