Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. One step closer to getting it on the road. Got the engine back in today. Now on to finishing up the new wiring.

How many cans of "NEVERDULL" did you use on those windows? I'll bet your fingures are still black

Wasn't too bad Bill..... I used fine steel wool and WD 40. I just hope they stay shiny.

You bus looks fantastic. Brenda is going to love riding in that beauty! :D

Your attention to detail is readily apparent from the pictures. I don't quite have that level of patience, so I really acknowledge those that do. Getting a new wiring harness is also a good idea on a big project like yours. Kyle did mine in the '59 and it was such an improvement over the other old VW's I've had with questionable connections. Are you using a Wiring Works harness? Kyle did a lot of modifications on mine, including making it "screw on" for originality, but thankfully, you won't have to go that route on yours! Good luck! It looks tremendous!

Thanks for the comments guys.....

Sean, yes its from Wiring Works. I used one of his in my 56 Beetle and it was super easy. The bus is a little more complicated. Trying to figure out the turn signals & emergency flashers and the 2 relays......

Got the rear hatch put on and the glass in. That was the worst glass to get in. Got the overhead cabinet put in. Now I know why they call it "headbanger". Ouch......

Finished up the wiring today and after double and triple checking everything, put fuses in the fuse box and connected the battery. Lights & horn work but can't get the starter to kick in and the green directional arrows on the speedometer are both on w/o the key in the ignition and so are the overhead lights. No turn signals or emergency flashers either. Time to start trouble shooting cuz I want to get this bus on the road...

Bob, I've got a 2 pin can shaped flasher relay and a 4 pin remote relay. The flashers and turn signals worked before I took the old harness out when I got ready for paint. The diagram that came with the new harness (Wiring Works) matches with the numbers on the remote relay and with the colors of old wires. (I cut the wires on all the switches and relays leaving an inch so I could see what color went where). The problem is with the flasher relay (I think). My relay shows one pin to be "S54" and the other "+15". The diagram shows three pins and they are supposed to be "49+" and "KBL" and "49A" or X P and L.

My dad who has been into ham radios for 60 plus years is going to come over and try and help me sort it out, hopefully this week. I'm itching to drive it now that I am so close!
