I don't have a oil bath cleaner on my 68' truck ( original engine ) there is a hose from the carb that is connected to the Carb and open on the other end. On the square part were you pour the oil in there is two tubes. One that goes straight down and is open towards the road. Then there is another open nipple that faces upwards. Can I plug the smaller nipple facing up? Maybe add a little hose on the bottom tube to keep oil from getting all over my engine. If anyone has a oil bath they would be willing to part with, Let me know. I would like to set it up rite .Thanks for any help.

The one on the top,where the oil fill cap is, is breather that normally goes to the aircleaner (any aircleaner) Actually it goes where you have that long hose attached. The tube that goes down to the bottom is the road draft tube. It should have a boot on the bottom that keeps dirt out but allows the crankcase to vent. It has a small slit in it. I have some. stop by and get one.

Thank you for the fast response Bill. So , if I connect the hose from the carb filter to the top nipple of the oil breathernand put the boot on the bottom tube I will be set ? Sounds good Bill . I will swing bye for that part . I am putting a new muffler that I had lying around on and cleaning the engine bay up . I have a 009 dizzy on there that I would like to change to a vacuum advanced so I don't have to rev the RPM's up to get going . Would you guys recommend a SVDA dizzy , or a stock dizzy ? Anyone know the part number of the correct dizzy for this engine . I am happy with it on my type 4 , but I'm curious if it will work as well on a uprite 1600 engine . Thanks again for your advise . It will save me hours of searching on the net .

Correct dist for 68 bus is 0 231 137 021 (bOSCH #) . any single vac advance dist will work although the curve will vary a bit. The 76 to 78 bus dist will work great 0 231 170 093 (bosch #) This was also used on non California 80-82 Vanagon (aircooled) They all use the same point,cap,rotor and cond.
