I June, 2005 I decided it was time to restore the old SC. It had been stored at the Meister Rd. barn since 1981 when it was finally retired from the landscaping business. It had 48,000 original miles on the odometer and I drove it out of the garage under its own power.

After agood scrubbing and going over the engine, transmission and brakes I drove it around mostly to events and shows for the next 7-8 years

In 2002 I decided to have the body and paint redone so I took it to Ron Luman at Rapid Auto Body in Lorain. Ron started his career working on VW's for Davidson Volkswagen in Lorain (formerly Rippel Motors)

I met Dave Cormack of Hot VW's Magazine at the Porsche/VW Reunion in Cinncinati in 2005. He asked me if he could do a photo shoot of the single cab. Of course I said yes and much to my surprise this article appeared in the August 2006 issue of the magazine.

Below are some of the original service documents that came with the SC. Wish I had the sales invoice, I remember handing the salesman my dads check for $2340.00.

Wonderful documentation of the process!!! It looked better coming out of the barn in 1981 than most anything similar that's for sale nowadays. Nice work, Ken!

I was considering not restoring it at all and making it a survivor. Then I decided to make it as it was when I drove it home from the dealership. As far as paint and detail, it's probably better than original.

Vey nice. I could only hope to have something half that good. What a legacy to the business.
