56 oval

Post by Josh »

I picked this December of 56 oval (which makes it a 57) up from Aaron a few weeks ago. It's been transplanted onto a 66 pan that's in great shape. It was lowered with a 6" narrowed adjustable beam, 2.5" dropped ball joint spindles, and the rear was dropped a notch or two.

I couldn't drive it like that, so I cranked the front end up as high as the adjusters would allow, and re-indexed the rear spring plates up 1 notch on the torsion bars. It's able to clear my driveway without getting hung up now. I just didn't enjoy driving it around smacking the front beam into every bump in the road. There still aren't any shocks or a bump steer shock, but it's making progress. Sean enjoyed seeing sparks flying out from under the bug when he followed me home from Aaron's.

The motor is a whoooped 1600 dp that has low enough oil pressure that the light on the dash is on more than it's off, so it came out. I am going to rebuild it for whatever, but I am in search of a 36hp to put in there. The patina is great on this thing.

This is after I raised it!

Here is when I picked it up.

Are you going to give it the Parma paintbooth treatment, or just clearcoat it?

A '58 36hp case and some other stuff is for sale out here, but as for the tolerances/shape they're in, no idea.

Josh's bug is killer. The minute I saw it I wanted it. While I'm not into the lowering crap, the patina on this thing is unreal.

On the ride home I was shocked Josh was even able to get it out of Aaron's driveway. Thank God the fuel tank is up front, because the sparks were serious and constant.

Anyway, here are a few shots of the purchase and the ride home.

Love that front hood...

Josh

That is great! My very first car was a 1957 Rag Top. It was so neat I keep dreaming on where it might be and can I get it back.
