68 Double Cab

I am working on the dash board. The vinyl above the instrument cluster and the glove box had shrunk up. I used a heat gun and was able to massage it back into shape.
Anyone have any recommendations on the type of glue I should use?

Go to s local Auto trim shop, someone who does convertible tops, etc. They should have s yellow contact adhesive they can sell you. Take your own container. Bush adhesive on both surfaces, allow to tack up. It will be an instant stick , do you may need a second set of hands.

Thanks Bill, I had come across something called Weldwood Landau Top & Trim adhesive. Sound like what you are referring to more or less. Sounds like it will hold up to the heat the dashboard will be subjected to.

that's the stuff. Be sure to let it "tack up" before sticking the material to dash. also, I have found that 2 lite coats, allowing each to tack works best.

I thought I would share what took this Bus off the road last year.
I was picking up my son from school when it started making a horrible rumbling sound. It was intermittent, was worse at idle but sounded like something grinding and rattling. The engine seemed to be shuttering
My thoughts were that fan was loose or maybe the flywheel. At any rate I shut it down and got it home. I tried to start it later but it would not turn over. The plan was to pull the engine and take it over to a friend who works on vintage VW’s. Time went by and it sat over the winter until a couple weeks ago.
My friend asked if I could send some videos of it running. I managed to get it started and recorded it. I wish I could figure out how to post a video of it so you could here it. He asked to also take the fan belt off and see if that made any difference. It didn’t. Put the belt back on and decided to do a better recording it. In doing that I accidentally hit the key and it suddenly ran fine. Then I realized the ignition switch had gone bad and the sound I heard was the starter engaging. That had never dawned on me since it had originally happened while driving, I guess from the weight of the key and detachable ring. I have only driven this bus maybe 500 miles and have no idea how old the switch was.
Check out the custom flywheel machined starter gear.
The offending switch
Pretty relieved it was not something worse.

Since I had to pull the column apart I thought I would do some cleaning of the dash and sort some of the dangling wires. It was pretty funky.

Fuse block broken and filthy.
Put in a new fuse block. Still need to organize the wires better.
