Well, I have had a engine prop lid arm for my old Splittie laying around for about a year or two now. When I bought it, the ad said 'ready to install'. When I got it, I realized that there was a prong missing on the end. I was a little bummed and just set it aside until now. I found some pictures of The Samba of one installed and just kind of took a shot in the dark at the distance on the prong. I am going to go out to the bus tomorrow and check the clearances before I do any welding or brazing.

Also in plans are to re-place the leaky front wheel cylinders with my new ones. While doing that, I have new hub-cap clips to install. Then I am going to clean up my fusebox connections and install a new clip to hold it to the bus.

Let me know how it works out. I have the same problem with my '59 engine lid mechanism. I need to fab something up, or just wait for Kirk!

Well, it may be ugly, but it works! Its better than the bungee cord I was using.





It appears that the old arm must have been damaged while attached to the bus. Everything is tweeked a little and there is some broken welds on a piece. It works though!

I am happy because its 'correct' and works!

Just got my electric choke working last night. The stock element was broken when I bought the bus and I grabbed a replacement out of a older Beetle but it didn't seem to work quite right. I realized last night that it had some burrs on the sides and wasn't moving freely against the carb body. Once i smoothed the burrs off, it went in and adjusted fine. It sure made a difference this morning when leaving for work.

77777 miles. Time to replace the swing arm pin, it moves up and down a little too much.
