I had to work last week but this week I got some shit done.

First of all, I'm cool now. 8-)

I went to Todd Swangstu's (Toledo club) house Wednesday and filled my car with old bus parts. I did far better at his house than all swap meets I've attended this year put together. Big score!

I cleaned and painted some parts....

(that's a reflection of a tree in the trailing arms, they look grea

Before putting them on. I put new bushings in, and I had marked the arms and bars very well so they went back exactly where they came from. It's weird that you don't need a torsion bar compressor like Type 1s need, just a floor jack as it only needs to go a bit to get over the stop so the cover can be reinstalled. I'm thinking the T2 bars are much larger in diameter and don't need as much preload.

I don't want to tell you how many frigging hours I have cleaning this stupid tranny. I couldn't stand putting it in nasty, and man was it nasty. I wire wheeled the case and cleared it, cleaned, wirewheeled, ground and painted the axles. It looks like chrome or silver paint, but it's not, just mag and clear.

I removed the axle snubber brackets, blasted them, and removed the remnants of the original "nipples" holding the snubber on...

Found a big ass bolt that fits inside the snubber nice and tight....

Cut it, and migged it onto the brackets.....

And reinstalled the brackets....

before reinstalling the tranny. I'll replace the boots when I can get the axles level.

I used the old OEG coupler rather than the new WW one. Todd set me up with a shift rod 'cause mine was rough. I tried putting in the tranny with the front mount upside down, it don't work too good like that. The mount is 99% symmetrical, but not quite enough to put it in.....

I prepped and painted the engine compartment. It's not quite this orangy, I think the camera is fooling us. I'm glad the safety chain was there when I was putting the tranny in, cause I could have easily knocked it off of the stands. The shell is as light as a feather when it's empty.

Probably at about 260 hours right now. I really want to get going on the outside bodywork but I figgered I better get the underneath stuff done first, as it's not wise to do that with fresh paint outside.

So, do you normally prep and paint the interior now, or paint it just before the exterior is done?

Very impressive, looks beautiful.

FWIW, I was gonna do bottom, finish exteior body work, jamb it, then interior followed by exterior with no lag. Don't much feel like doing any exterior body work, when interior is in a finished state. After exterior paint, the final interior (trim and upholstery)

I would prep and paint the interior before the exterior. I had to do the interior prep and paint on a finished bus (body and paint) and it was a pain.A lot of the interior gets covered so a little over spray is easier to deal with than if it is on the exterior.

I worked on the bus this week, but less than usual because it was my birthday. ;)

I re-pinned the decklid hinges. That should have taken an hour but took much more.....

Getting the old screws out and the pins out was quite a task.

Worked wrinkles and dents out of the decklid I bought at Ypsi,

Installed the aftermarket apron which didn't fit too bad.

Spent some time doing final panel straightening on the right side in prep for mud, re- DA'd and wirewheeled the right side and shot real primer...

The sight lines down the right side aren't too bad. I'm happy. Probably only 15 hours this week, 275 total.

Where can I buy bondo in 5 gallon pails?

ColumBus tomorrow. :D

Lots of work going into the bus lately, but it's all bodywork and doesn't show well in pictures.

The RF door was pretty good with a shallow dent in it filled with mud. The bottoms and insides of both front doors is nearly perfect- very little surface rust at all.

The LF door was wrecked- it looked fine until I ground the frigging 1/2" of mud from it to find it was hit pretty good at one time, straightened from top to bottom and filled with a gallon of mud. I'm not happy using this so I'm in the process of finding another door. It's too bad because it's nearly rust free. Anybodywannbuyadoorcheap?

The maestro at work- he's doing all of the mud so far. I have the ability to do bodywork but mine usually has lots of waves in it. Chuck is much better at it than I am, that's for sure.

No more green paint! (That's green Bondo, lime flavored....)

Cleaning the vents was time consuming but necessary. Luckily they're straight, I don't know how the hell you'd straighten them if they weren't.

The first coat of primer, with oodles to come. Concentrating on the lower half right now while Chuck's here, I can probably handle most of the upper stuff myself

Note the grade 100 load rated proof coil chain with the Class 5 hooks anchored to the beam for safety, Chuck was quite impressed with this.

This is the RF seat mount. Is there supposed to be a rubber bushing or plastic sleeve here? It seems like it would rattle like a bitch.

Matt and Rachel stopped by last night to get an update and inspiration to finish their bus. I wish mine was just a quarter panel!

Overall, the lines on this bus are very good. It won't have nearly the mud in it when it's done that it arrived with, mostly just a skim coat to cover the weld lines up. I put a shitload of time into straightening the engine hatch, too, and I think it's going to live. Probably about 320 hours right now including Chuck. Another 100-150 until paint, the way I work.
