Ive been doing some work lately. Ive been busy doing some window and rubber work. I purchased door rubber kits from WW and Im looking forward to having properly locking vent windows and watching water NOT dribble in
. I also started trying to fix a PO's door hinge mess... And finally, I started the process of building a 1904cc (74*90.5) motor. I took the case to RIS to be machined up and he was quite pleased with the case unlike some people... Im still on the fence about using stock-like heads and heater boxes or stepping up and getting bigger valved heads and a larger exhaust without heater boxes. I will be going full flow oil for a remote oil filter and a small 1.5 qt sump. Also using the set or Dellorto DRLA 40s that I completely rebuilt. Which gave me a few headaches keeping track of every little part...

So I've been doing body work and.... I hate it. I would like to thank WSD (west side dan) for helping me get the door off. He held the light and laughed while I kept muttering curse words. After the long process of drilling out broken screws by a PO I did save all 8 threaded holes. Now im just patching up the door and Im almost done with the restoring the window frame assembly with new rubber. Im following this samba thread from the split bus FAQs to save the otherwise nice door. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=546124

After a break from the hobby for a while. Im getting back on this project. I had my engine parts balanced and Chuck and I have started building. I did some parts cleaning and then We did a super quick mock up to check deck height, internal clearances, and getting some compression numbers of 9:1. I have to order a set of shims to bring it down closer to 8:1. More to follow soon.

More progress and pictures. Had a little hiccup with my CB Performance cam gear kit. One of the 3 bolts to hold the gear to the cam was shorter than the other 2. Not sure whose bright idea that was... But a replacement bolt will be aqquired tomorrow.

Installed new headstuds, oil pump, and oil pressure relief hardware. I also started working on my thermostat problem. The vintage speed exhaust I have has J-tubes that interefer with the stock T-stat. I contacted Clark @ Awesome Powdercoat about possibly using a smaller mexican T-stat. I already have some industrial shields from him. Waiting on cylinder shims to ship in. Big thanks to Chuck again, he somehow provides heaps of knowledge, humor, and insults all in the same breath.
