Dan C.. stopped by last Saturday to do a little PM on his '71 Westy for the summer camping season He inpected the undercarrage including engine, heat exchangers, fuel lines, brake lines, steering, lubed the front end and touched up the undercoating. I was impressed at the great condition of this bus, inside, outside and underneath.

Great job guys. I remember Dan's bus being featured in that national auto magazine last year. It's a really nice bus. You really don't appreciate it unless you see it in person. Way to help out Ken! Glad to see the Meister Road lift is getting a good workout!
The picture of you with the grease reminds me of a question I have. I read somewhere that when you are using a grease gun you are not "topping off" a grease fitting. You are supposed to be replacing the old grease. Which means pumping until clean grease comes out. I have done this before but boy it can be messy. What do you guys do "top off" or pump until clean?

Ron,
I this case Dan was "topping off" the grease. If the seals/boots are good and the vehicle is greased this is OK, but if they are leaking and dirt has contaminated the grease, purging would be a good idea. I have also done that when a vehicle has been in storage for a long time and the gease tends to harden.

Howie,
Yes it was outside for a short time last year during the campout. It's inside 99.9% of the time. It runs and drives well but I haven't done anything with the body since I got it about 10 years ago. Someday I'd like to do some minor body repairs and use it for a driver/work truck.

A big public thank you to Ken and his awesome generosity. Having the bus up on a lift was a real treat. I think I cleaned off all the underbody overspray that got on his newly painted lift. Thanks again, Ken. And it sure was fun having Regis there, too. (Ask him about his telephoto video shoot!)
