There has been some confusion and misunderstanding of the $40.00 "walk up fee" that has been imposed by 4H this year.
First, let me explain that "ALL" of the fees that you pay for this campout go directly to 4H. They set the rate. LEAKOIL gets NOTHING,NADA,0. BEGINING LAST YEAR FOR THE 2008 EVENT,WE WERE REQUIRED BY 4H TO PROVIDE INSURANCE FOR THE EVENT. We have also provided the GreatLakes beer and a couple hundred hot dogs and condiments for those who attend. We are fortunate to have a member who has supplied a commercial hot dog machine and even more hot dogs. We have paid for the insurance,GreatLakesand dogs thru the raffle and sale of items during the year. The money which was left was used for the Christmas party last year. We are also providing a couple of nice free gifts for every bus that attends this year. We have also received some very nice items for the raffle and a silent auction from such vendors as Wolfsburg West,WestCoastMetric,Go Westy and Airhead parts along with some very nice donations from members to raise money to offset the costs for this year.
The $40.00 walk up fee was initiated due to abuse of the hospitality of 4H and LEAKOIL by a few "guests" who paid a minimal fee or in some cases "nothing" by using the I'm with so and so. These "guests" enjoyed all the benefits that those who paid the regular fees, breakfasts, pot luck dinner and of course the beer and hot dogs .The situation appeared that it would become even more so this year. This event was started and is meant to be a FAMILY VW BUS ORIENTED event. While we welcome other aircooled VW enthusiasts and hope to convert them to bus ownership, those who created the problem were not even bus owners or participants of this forum or family of memebers of attendees. Hence, the $40.00 walk up fee. We sincerley regret any misunderstanding. Also if you have friends or guests who wish to visit during the day Fri. or Sat. they are more than welcome. There are a number of people who work hard to make this event happen and to keep it an enjoyable family oriented event. As this event has grown,we have encountered issues that we have had to try to deal with to keep it so. Your understanding is appreciated.
Does this mean folks who walk-in, in general, for a look-around who do not stay at the camp? I think that is the way I comprehend it. My neighbor Christine & her family wanted to come visit for the afternoon because they are looking to buy a bus and want to see the KI camp setup firsthand, then return to the mainland the same day.
