Again, great story and a fantastic bus. It's really looking good.vw7266 wrote: cleaned up the engine tins

I didn't read the samba thread on this so you may have covered it there, but can you give us some insight on the motor? It appears it has a fresh air set up. Was a fresh air set up available in '61? If not, did someone just put a fresh air shroud new heater boxes on the original engine? Or is it just a later 40 horse or 1500 engine? It's all good just the same. That tin came out great!
Re: so34
Thanks for the update. Those 1500's are nice motors. My first VW was a '69 beetle with a 1500 SP. That thing is going to look great and perform great.vw7266 wrote:motor was changed in 71...its a 1500 sp. The tin isnt perfect but once I get it greasy again you'll never know
I've got a 'stale air' set up in my '59. If I ever swap out the original motor for performance I'd love a 1500 or anything with a 'fresh air' set up. Of course if I go 1500, I'd go 12V and I'm not sure I could ever do that!

You don't have to give up the legacy of "Six Volt" for more power. I run a 1970, 1600, single port, six volt, in my single cab (Say that three times real fast.) No problem, runs great.

You can fit a 6v gen on a 1500. You could even do the big body 66 bus 6v gen.
