If anybody wants to help a local Kelleys Island resident get their bus running better...bring some tools and lets do a tune up! Below is the message sent to us:

"I met your group last year, I have a vw camper on the island. I was hoping to find someone to help me with my van from the group. It is still running rough and I think it needs to be adjusted. Someone mentioned last year that if I let you guys know ahead, there might be someone who can help me during the visit to Kelleys"

Please direct me,
Pat

I met this lady last year. Her and her father came up to the 4-H and walked around. She has a bay window. Can't remember the year, but it's a carb model. It might be a '71 with an upright engine, but my memory is cloudy. She owns the Booga Shack on Division Street. I've never been in it, but if you drive by you see the bus out front. It's painted in some "flower style" motif.

She was really nice and her Dad was nice too. If some of us can make it an early Saturday afternoon excursion followed by a stop at the Brewery or the Village Pump, I'm sure we'll get a few volunteers. :D Hey, all we can do is try.

Edit:

Gail posted a picture of the bus from last year. Maybe it's not a '71, but I remember the Dad telling me it was carbed.

Ok, I'll get some tune up parts from Dale. Any suggestions on the generic points, rotor, cap, condenser and plugs I should grab? I guess it would help if we knew the specific year and motor set up. But, hey, this is LEAKOIL! I'll bring some stuff and we'll see. :D

Can't tell exactly what year, but it's definately a 71 or older. Should be an upright.

Mark is right, it's a 68-71. The hubcaps look to be the flatter style of 1971 and not the deep dog dished version from up to 1970 to me. The rear wheel well flare looks more pronounced like on a 71 too. It could be my eyes tricking me due to the angle though. The exhaust is a "Monza" quad tip (sister used to have a "Monza" on her 74 super but Glenn changed it to a regular muffler from my stash), so it's a Type I style engine.

Generic tuneup parts (cap, rotor, condensor, points, wires, plugs, coil, filter) are a great idea Sean, among everybody I'd bet you'd have it all. Maybe bring along a spare 30 and 34 pict carbs too if you can't get it to idle properly? I hope it will be an easy fix.

Have fun everybody, after I graduate you'll see me at Kelley's!
