Here is an update...

Mike came over and helped me out with some electrical work last weekend. We replaced the double fuse panel and flat fuses from the previous owner, with an original 6 fuse panel (according to owner's manual). We followed the wiring diagram and re-did all of the connections. I still have an issue with my right rear turn signal, nithing I can't trace down with some time. But, I now have brake lights that work the correct way! ;)

I learned a lot by doing this. Mike was a huge help - Thanks Mike!

Here are some before, during and after photos....

Did you pull your turn switch appart and check the solderd connections? I had a problom with one of my blinkers it was a wire in the switch the solder let loose and lost contact...

Thanks Ed. We did have the switch apart. It looked looked pretty good, but I am going to have to take another closer look. I will start with the light and work my way back to the panel and check all of the connections.

Someone told me that good connections and grounds are pretty important, especially in a 6 volt system. :?

I used some stainless zip screws and added dedicated ground wires to the taillights and tag light. If you want real bright lights ask Josh how good his 6v rear lights were after adding relays.

I already added the ground wires to the rear lights, it did make a difference.

This was on my old 58' and it was a bit overkill, but Ted was right. Big difference, I was also towing an apache camper with lights to power and the 6 volt system had no problems handling the job. I sanded the sockets and ran individual ground wires to the sockets with zip screws. The relays work well because you aren't sending the current up front to the brake light switch and then back to the bulb losing voltage along the way.

As the season is winding down, it's time to start thinking about winter projects. As some of you know, I am having a new engine built by RIS... Here is a link to the progress so far.

I have been going to swap meets throughout the summer. With help from my personal shopper, I have been able to collect most of what I need (I think).

I have been getting ready for that new engine...

On my list of things to do was to clean and paint the heater boxes that I bought in Columbiana. My personal shopper picked them out and said for $60 bucks they were a pretty good deal. I was skeptical, they looked like crap... all gummed up with grease, dirt falling out of them when you tilted them.... But I put my faith in him and I am pleasantly surprised by how nice they turned out. Thanks again Mike!

First step was to soak them with Easy Off oven cleaner for a couple of nights in plastic bags, hot water rinse and scrub. Then sprayed them down with degreaser, rinse and scrub.... Once I had them fairly clean, I soaked them in Prep and Etch (Phosophoric Acid) over night in a bucket. Let them dry really good and then painted them with a high temp paint...

I wish I had before pictures...here are a few pictures in progress and all painted up. The pans still need a few more coats of paint.
