After viewing all the pics I can see that there is much to do before putting it on the road. About 10 years ago I bought a 66 Westy, $500.00, drove it home, jumped in and tore it all apart, started cutting and there it sat for 4 years and I sold it for parts. This was one I regret not doing little by little as I did drive it home and could have had some fun with it!!

I like seeing your progress!

PS: What's "not" available to restore this bus? I'll need all door rubbers, full deluxe interior, headliner, door hinge pins, some trim and door handles, etc.

For wiring, I'll need a harness, probably many of the switches in the dash (which seem crusty), turn signals for the front, taillight assy's for the rear, maybe a 12v wiper motor, etc.

Has anyone run into a roadblock with parts that are not repro'd?

Who should I get the interior panels from? ($$$) Are they all available? I'm not a headliner guy, I bet Bill ends up doing that....
Thanks!

Wolfsberg West http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/ has pretty much everything you'll need. There are cheaper vendors http://www.cip1.com/ and more specialized venders http://www.klassicfab.com/ and some vendors that can find stuff and have great knowledge http://www.bustoration.com/ but I've found WW to be the overall best for general pieces and parts.

You can go all over the place with interior panels in terms of quality and price. Bill is the best person to talk to about that and he can certainly address your headliner. Sewfine has a nice on-line catalogue to look at http://www.sewfineproducts.com/

Looks like a nice project! :D

Your heater log is missing. I don't think they repo those, so will need to source one...

Heater log? For the fireplace? WTF is a heater log?

Do they repro heater tubes under the bus? Mine are rotted and I don't see them listed in WW or WCM.

you can use 2.5 in exhaust pipe for the tube underneath
or buy it from Gerson and pay more

Can't you just leave that open so it does not impede heat flow into the cabin? It seems like there'd be a ton of heat coming from that one heater box, unless it's enough to roast one occupant's ankles.....

Yeah, I don't know why VW even had those things

If it's just open it will heat the area under the seat instead of directing it out into the cabin.

I'm quickly loosing any small shred of faith in this statement...

You don't need heat. Leak oilers don't drive their bus's in the winter

lmao. I didn't know what they were either. There wasn't even the hint of a cargo floor left in my pile of shit/split bus. Now its just a polished terd.
