Yea, the Titian red was just too dark for me- almost a maroon.

Worked a long day today and got a shitload done- dropped it down and started on the roof- DA'd the whole roof, wire wheeled the rain gutters, unwrinkled some wrinkles in the roof, and a few skim coats of mud. Also wirewheeled the side window openings. My f'ing arms hurt right now from handling that grinder (WW) for so long. That thing is a fighter......

That's actually quite close to what I'm painting the bus. My bus (coded Titian) has a much darker color everywhere.

That's a labor of love if I ever saw one. One hell of an impressive resto and we haven't even seen the magic you'll put into the drivetrain and electrics. Just an awesome job Bruce!

I don't normally work weekends on the bus but today was an exception. I got a lot done, wirewheeling the window openings, welding up a CB antennal hole in the roof,


DAing and started wirewheeling the inside of the window openings and inside the roof. The glue isn't so bad, this should only be a few hours tops.


There's different types of popout window latch mounts, does anyone know why?


And, why did one of mine tear out? (It's a forward window that opens backward, catching the wind, which might be why.)


Here's a shot of the rain gutter after wirewheeling, this is one of the reasons I bought this bus. Pristine. Not even surface rust anywhere in the rain gutter and only a couple of insignificant surface spots anywhere on the roof at all.

Here we are at the end of the day after air filing the mud out a couple of times. Made good progress, the roof is just about ready for seam sealer and primer.


Anyone recommend an inexpensive seam sealer that sets up in a day or so? Many times the stuff I've used in the past takes weeks to harden. I know the body supply places have a two part that's like $40 or something, but that's kind of silly, I've heard of using a Home Depot product but I'm not sure which one.

I don't know if this will help you any. This is the base color that's painted on my dark red 64 bus. Base / clear paint job.

I had the same issue with that window latch behind the driver seat and also saw a 66 out west with the same problom as well....I figure your half right bruce. I believe its pobly a mix between the wind and that window gets used more than the others being directly behind the driver,well in my bus it is it takes to much effert to climb back there to open the others..

As for your seam sealer questions: most of today's one part sealers work fine, usually ok to paint within a few hours, and they lay down better and are easier to tool (wipe with your finger) than the 2-part types, that being said I do have a Mixpac gun if you opt for a 2-part product that isn't available in standard caulk tubes, most everything 3M or SEM make is top notch stuff.
