Nick's 1971 Westy
Re: Nick's 1971 Westy
With this insane warm spell my dad and I put a laminate floor in and the side panels as well. Baltic birch was n/a in 1/8" at Menards, as was everything else, so we did some creative work with some different wood in 1/4" since I'm cheap. It went in with some persuasion and dremel tool work on the edge that goes under the lip below the windows. They do have 1/4" baltic birch there in 4x8 sheets, $15 each. I found one of Sean's old samba posts and used his photos and some measurements we took as a guide for the install. Photos to follow. We're not doing the roof until the summer.

Re: Nick's 1971 Westy

I was able to salvage the wooden piece from a 72 that goes here and added a new curtain piece.

We slipped in the old brown door panels for the time being, may keep them, make some, or use the bright green ones that are buried in the barn.

New floor installed by dad and I using a samba thread courtesy of Sean.

Another floor photo with side panel too.

Trying to determine what radio to use. It's currently wired for the Kenwood, but not sure if it works.
My uncle gave me a CB to install as a joke though I may decide to use it.

What's up with this 3 band radio? The one in the middle is AM, top is AM/FM.

Re: Nick's 1971 Westy
I believe the 3 band radio has shortwave band in addition to am/fm.

Thanks Bill! I'm going to look into it and see what I can find. So far I believe its made by Grundig after looking around at lots of radio photos. Now to see what it can do.

The only curtain left is the front window one that is a huge PITA!

Re: Nick's 1971 Westy
I figured out why the radio doesn't work now. Somewhere down the line a member of MENSA must have worked on this thing
There are in line fuses galore for the old Kenwood that's in it, and they go into what I assume is either the headlight or turnsignal relay switch! I'll be doing some wiring when it gets a little warmer out to use fuse panel segment #7 for accessories.

Rip out that Kenwood! I think we should all install CB radios instead! 10-4 good buddy

Maybe I'll go with this one instead after it arrives in the mail. It supposedly even works!

Re: Nick's 1971 Westy
Sapphire XIX AM/FM radio arrived in the mail today. It's pretty much mint faceplate and button wise, the top of the case needs a little cleaning though. Using my special tool that I have rigged for my camper I wired it up. It turns on and lights up. No antenna in my test kit, but it gave out some static so it works. Just gotta add an antenna and I'll be set to test all my radios. The setup doesn't work with 6V sadly.
Also been playing with the T3 clocks I have. The soldered link is melted away so no complete circuit exists until I get the right solder and repair them.
