58 PGSG

After searching for a suitable bus to build for the last 2 years i came across this 58 pgsg on the samba for what i thought was a fair price for a earlier bus. Prior to this i had got a 1956 pgsg that i was excited to build, but my time is valuable. So i chose the 58 to reduce my time under the welding hood. This will be a exterior preservation with custom original westfalia interior. Follow along while i whip this poor bus back into shape for the 2021 season. Obviously its going to be a lot of work including frame work, but its got strong original paint and it’s definitely worth the effort.
I plan to remove the original nose skin. As of now im looking for a metal wizard. Someone who can rework the nose and save it and the original paint. Please chime in if you know of the person capable of doing that. I seen a thread on the samba years ago where someone hammer’d and dolly’d out a vent section and saved the original metal. It was outstanding the skills they had. Im also in the market for a 1958 decklid and ill pay fair market value if anyone knows of one laying around. Anyhow, looking forward to sharing the progress on this beaut thru out the new year! Happy New Year everyone!
Cheers,
Dave.

Love it! Way out of my league, but glad you're going to save it.

Reminds me of days gone by and Josh's old '58. He did a ton of work to it like this...

As always this is a lot worse then I thought or hoped for. I’ve ordered quite a bit of metal, but I’m hindsight I should of spent more a more solid bus, but something about a palm green bus, I gotta save it!

Heres the traditional “on the trailer shot” and then a pic of it nestled in the back of my barn. I don’t have any time to actually do work on it, but I did spend Sunday night cleaning up some paint and cleaning it out.
